Sat watching my kids playing I found myself feeling a little sad and missing the days when you could just play without giving a stuff and lose yourself in your own imagination. These are the things I miss about my childhood!
Goonies never say die
Pretending we were members of the Goonies and riding our bikes to the top of the hill and whizzing down top speed – all fun and games until you hit a stone, fell off spectacularly and grazed 236 layers of skin off your knees whilst shouting “no I’m not crying” (whilst desperately holding those snotty sobs in) at your mates who were elbowing each other and wetting themselves at your misfortune. Or maybe swallowing a mutant bug on the way down that made you cough up half a lung, which led to vomiting, which led to your mates pissing themselves.
Let’s pretend
“Pretending you were the naughty man and I’m the policeman” which usually led to a good reason to kick the crap out of your sibling after they’d robbed the bank. Inevitably your Mum would come stomping through in her pinny to give you a thick ear ‘cos said sibling had run out screaming “I’m telling!!!” Git.
Wa-ter palaver
Having a great laugh with water pistols when you were the one doing the soaking but then all hell broke lose when someone decided it would be fun to screech “pile on” and some poor bugger (usually me) would end up at the bottom unable to breathe and soaked to the My Little Pony pants. Or God forbid you’d think it was a great idea to run in the house thinking you’d be safe. Nope. They’d still chase you, soak the joint and you’d get the telling off because “you’re older and you should know better”.
Dirty Den
Making an amazing den in the forest with wood and nails and a roof and everything…ok,ok it was with some stinking old sheets your Dad used when he was painting the dining room and it was made at the bottom of the garden but hey it was awesome and no-one could get in unless they had the password which was usually something really grown up like poo-head or bum-face.
Top of the Flops
Recording yourself on a radio cassette recorder usually reserved for recording the Top 40 so in between you singing Holiday in your bestest singing voice – the one you use in the school concerts – you’ve got Ace of Base and 2 Unlimited and if you’re lucky your Mum shouting “I thought I told you to tidy this room”.
What do you miss about your childhood?
This is my childhood! I used to make dens at my Dad’s with the bedsheets and pretend games were just the best! I do miss it but try and do a few of these things with my daughter. Thanks for linking up with #bestandworst and see you soon x

Love it! Brough back so many memories. Another one I miss is riding down the stairs on a duvet. For some unknown reason me and my siblings called that game “blanket go down town” haha, we were weird kids! x

Goonies!!! Yes, Goonies! Top of the Flops—giggle. I used to wait for Top of the Pops! I missed what I would call the simpler games (than what the kids do now) I used to play like collecting stones, playing hop scotch or just climbing up a tree and pretending to be a Pirate!

Funny how you could spend hours and hours out playing with just yourself and a couple of mates.only came home when you were starving x

Love this post! My mummy used to play MAN HUNT around her street, they used to venture out all the time on Goonies type adventures into Southampton Common. That would never happen now 😦 #JustAnotherLinky

Brilliant…
I remember discovering I could put tape over the tabs of the cassette and record the top 40 fingers hovering over pause so I didn’t get the dj. My Ma went mad when she found out it was one of the classical tapes she’d bought for me that I’d used.

I definitely did that last one! I miss doing (and being able to do) cartwheels, shoulder stands and all manner of other contortions that would be impossible now on the school field in summer. And then rolling down the hill, grass stains and concrete-at-the-bottom be damned! #kcacols

This is a beautiful post I personally miss everything about being a child including the innocence and the sense that the world was a great place always, I miss playing outside it was the biggest adventure and I miss being able to read a book without being interrupted by one of my own children 🙂 #KCACOLS

Loved this! I miss building (really rubbish) dens and these incredibly involved storylines my brother and I would play out with the help of the dolls house, the castle, and those little plastic soldiers. It always ended up with deciding which toys would die and which would be saved… 🙂 #KCACOLS

Lmao it was great fun reading I found myself laughing out loud a few times, and Ella asking me “what’s so funny mommy?”. Oh gosh what do I miss about my childhood hmmm if I’m honest I don’t know. I think it’s because I try not to relive it if I’m honest. But really enjoyed reading about what you got upto! Xx #KCACOLS

Ahh love this – it brings back memories! Goonies still remains one of my favourite movie of all time! I miss making mix tapes and sharing them with friends. Spending my pocket money in the local sweet shop where you could buy a quarter of… and whatever sweets you fancied that would come in a white paper bag. Cola Cubes or strawberries and cream were my favourites! Oh and watching cartoons – they really don’t make them like they used to! #KCACOLS

I love this post! I was just thinking the other day about this. I miss grabbing my bike and riding to my friends house to hang out, ride around, getting slurpees at the 7 – 11. I miss hearing the whistling outside of friends coming to look for me. I do NOT miss being the point of attack of water fights, I hated those! ugh. jajaja Thanks for the memories. #justanotherlinky
